In the past 22 days, four iconic people in Hollywood died.
June 3, 2009: David Carridine. His death was especially sad because of the way he was found. No one should have to be found with a blond wig and fishnet stockings on, hung from his door. We all know how and why he died and no one's family should have to go through that, let alone with the entire world involved.
June 23, 2009: Ed McMahan. Twenty days later, Ed McMahan died. This wasn't as hard to swallow, because he was old. He lived a long, eventful life. His money troubles certainly followed him up until the last days of his life. Many people (mostly my parents) remember him on the Johnny Carson show and from Starsearch.
June 25, 2009: Farrah Fawcett. Her battle with anal cancer has been widely publisized. I did not know that she was as sick as she was. I had to work when the special came on, so I never saw it. I didn't realize she was near death. However, she wasn't really my generation. My mother was devestated though.
June 25, 2009: Michael Jackson. MERE HOURS after Farrah Fawcett died, Michael Jackson (king of pop) died of a heart attack in his home. The only way I can describe the way he spread out across generations was this: After dinner, my grandparents were getting ready to leave (as was I with a friend). We were kissing and hugging goodnight (my grandparents, parents, brother and I. Our friend waited by the couch). The news came on and it was announced: Michael Jackson is dead. We all went silent and turned towards the tv. No one spoke for about five full minutes as we watched the live coverage. My grandparents knew who he was, my parents had gone to his concerts and listened to his music, my friends and I listened to his music posed like Michael Jackson (one hand on the crotch, one hand high in the air). I'm speechless.
(On a side note: My beloved dog, Libby, passed away on June 9, 2009. She had a brain tumor and we had to put her down.)
I'm going to go ahead and deem June the worst month of 2009 (so far). I'm sure if North Korea hits Hawaii next month we're all pretty much screwed.
